This week's early literacy skill is Print Motivation. Print Motivation is all about making reading fun and memorable. This week's book are all great pop-up books / books that move. These books are better than toys because they are visual, interactive, and have a story. They are fun for both parents and children. It will make reading really feel like playing. These books have great illustrations and are a lot of fun to share.

Early Lteracy Skill: Print Motivation
For the very young, such as infants and babies, let them play with books as they would anyother toy. Read them books 15 minutes a day to make them apart of their life from the beginning. As they get older get them involved in the story by having them say repeated phrases or help make sounds of characters / animals. When they get older than pre-school, come up with related activities like crafts or even just going to see animals mentioned. Most of all, to motivate an interest in the printed word: KEEP READING FUN! Make sure that you do not force it, let them pick books of their own interest, and pick good times to read to them.

Our Early Literacy Skill of the day is Print Motivation. One way to make your child intersted in reading is to have them see you enjoying books. Another is to let them chose their own books so that they try an array of books, especially ones that they are excited about which will make them more enthusiastic about reading. Find a topic that they are curious about and read them a non-fiction (factual) book about the topic, such as: dinosaurs, planes, trains, animals, etc.

* Early Literacy Tip: Print Motivation - encourage this early literacy skill by allowing children to pick out their own books. They may find a new book you never thought to read them. Allowing children to pick out their own books allows them to get excited about books and also gives them some independence. Children are content with their choices and proud when their choice is read and well received.
