for our Family Fun Night Performers!

{Tuesday nights at 7pm in the Meeting Room}

Loads of fun in our weekly kids program!

{Thursdays at 2:30pm in the Meeting Room}

Along with our regular programs:

Story Time (for ages 2-5) at 10:30am on Wednesdays

and

Baby Time (birth to 2) at 10am on Fridays

We have a great Summer Reading incentive!

Kids that read 10 books and fill out a reading log can join us for an Ice Cream Party!

Tuesday, August 13 at 6pm

The child that has read the most books will win 

a Barnes & Noble gift card!

Early Literacy Skill: Phonological Awareness

For toddlers, use silly or homemade rhymes and songs so that they get used to hearing the small vowel sounds and get a taste of rhyming. For pre-school age children, have them help you sing songs and rhymes. Sing books to them so they can hear rhyming written words pronounced in song. For kindergarten children ask them for words that rhyme with other words, or cat minus ccc sound equals at (make-up a game of it).

15 minutes of board books, songs, rhymes, bounce, and bubbles

Our Early Literacy Skill for the week is Print Awareness, which is nothing more than teaching your child that when you are reading to them that it is the words on the page, not the pictures, that you are reading. It's also understanding the basics of books. For example, you can help them understand Print Awareness by pointing to the words when you are reading to them. One way to see if they understand the concept is to give them the book upside down or backwards and see if they automatically correct the situation. When they get a little older (Pre-School almost elementary) have them point to a word that is repeated throughout the story or have them create their own book and label the cover, title, pages, print, and spine.

Our Dr. Seuss Party was a hit!

On March 3rd we had a birthday party to celebrate Dr. Seuss and it was a huge hit with 84 children and 54 adults attending. We had crafts, face painting, pin the hat on the cat, coloring, and lots of Dr. Seuss stories.

We would like to thank the Temple Terrace Junior Women's Club and the Juniorettes for providing snacks, crafts, games, painting, and fun volunteers.

Great job ladies!

Bed Time Stories

Just a reminder...

Tonight is Bed Time Stories!

We would just like to remind everyone that Bed Time Stories are for children of all ages and their family. They take place the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm, children are encouraged to come in their pajamas and bring a suffed animal.
Our next Bed Time Stories will be March 3rd 2009 @ 7pm.

Hoist the anchor and swab the deck for a great time!
We will watch a popular pirate movie and
Have a costume contest for the best-dressed & most creative young swashbucklers that attend.

Creative Arts Theater Presents:

"The Gingerbread Boy"

Friday, March 20th at 3:00 PM

"Run, run, as fast as you can"... to see this puppet production.
Relive one of your favorite fairy tales. The Gingerbread Boy has escaped from the oven and is running away from the little old woman and the little old man and quite a few other animals too. The tale is told in a traditional hand and rod puppet stage. It's a charming childhood memory brought to life by puppets designed in a Pennsylvania Dutch style.
